An exciting treatment method we have available at our practice is EXTRACORPOREAL SHOCKWAVE TREATMENT. Our Podiatrists have been using this treatment method for over 8 years now with excellent results in the treatment of tendon injuries, foot and ankle pain.
This treatment method is used for many tendon and soft tissue injuries:
It works by breaking up fibrous tissue which may be slowing down healing rates, reducing inflammation, and stimulating both new cell and blood vessel formation to assist the body in self-repair and tissue regeneration. There is also a significant analgesic (pain relief) effect. Tendon injuries which are slow or non-responsive to standard treatment, or those tendon injuries that are chronic and recurrent, would definitely benefit from treatment with extracorporeal shockwave/ultrasound. Patients report success rates of 80%. This is also a good alternative to any injection style treatments (such as cortisone) that are often suggested in cases of chronic tendon injuries.
Our Podiatrists are fully trained and accredited in the application of extracorporeal shockwave treatment and will determine whether this is an appropriate treatment for your injury. A referral to our Podiatrists for this specialist treatment is not required.
Please note a GP referral is not required to see a Podiatrist.
